CREATE A GAME CHANGING, MODERN TEL AVIV RESTAURANT EXPERIENCE IN LONDON.

A bold and confident reflection of modern Tel Avivian living with unique character and soul’ was the brief set for this fascinating project, led by chef and Ottolenghi alumnus Eran Tibi and young restaurateur Sammy Shonn. Tasked with conceiving the original concept, branding, interior design and art direction, we set out to authentically repurpose a characterful, old red brick railway arch in Southwark, and create a unique Tel Avivian dining experience.

Inspired by the White City itself, we devised an overarching design concept that defies current trends and draws inspiration from Bauhaus, one of the most influential architectural movements of the last century.
Under the creative theme of ‘The Desert Bauhaus’, the design seeks to emulate the White City’s sun-drenched evenings for the two-floored space.

We incorporated materials that conveyed the passing of time – surfaces and finishes slightly worn and faded from the heat and sun – and picked an unapologetic Mediterranean colour palette to recreate the heat and fun of Tel Aviv’s all-day eateries. Imported, handmade pink and black Israeli Terrazzo flooring provides contrast to the silk matt black slate tabletops and burgundy red leather banquettes accented with salmon pink fabric upholstery. Liberal use of white highlighted the open kitchen with a gently curving zinc counter, whilst palm fronds and a bespoke orb chandelier completed the look. Bespoke joinery pieces carefully reference unproduced Bauhaus designs and our specially created lighting range references the visual approach of one of Weimar’s most important architects.

This is AfroditiKrassa’s first co-owned restaurant, putting us in a central management role for many aspects of the restaurants moving forwards.
