In 1999, Afroditi met rubber expert and now good friend Kelly Sant. Kelly introduced her to silicone rubber casting. The immediacy and accuracy of the process fascinated her. Very soon, she started casting everything.
After dark, a sort of industrial signet ring, was the resulting project of months of a experimentation. Originally designed to replace business cards or writing numbers on napkins, the rubber stamp leaves secret imprints, whenever you shake one’s hand or touch anything.
The first in a series of one-off commissions was made for newly appointed RCA course director Tord Boontje. Thanks Tord!
