Bad Hair Day Lamp statically attracted to human skin

Bad Hair Day Installation 100% Design

In 2002 Afroditi came across this new material: a fabric string curtain. It was fascinating but she did not know what to do with it. Years later and Bad Hair day was born. This pendant light features a lampshade covered in “hair” (yarn filaments). When switched on, the hair become electrostatically charged. This results in the filaments rising as if by magic, defying the law of gravity. The “hair” is attracted to anything with the opposite charge, such as humans. When touched for a long time, all the electric charge escapes through the human body and the hair fall down.
It took several months of intensive testing of materials, electric charges, weather conditions and other parameters, before this concept could be presented as a large lighting installation at 100% Design 2005, London.
